Turning Green Conscious - LED Lighting

Greening the show floor, as we have said before, is difficult by nature - however the choices you make in the kind of bulbs, the kind of fixtures, the kind of power all add up to very significant changes in green consciousness. A conventional incandescent light bulb turns only five to ten percent of its consumed energy into light and the rest goes out as heat. Now think of your booth space, its lighting, and how hot it can get even in the coldest of trade show venues.

LEDs, or light emitting diodes, are a technology that allows for extremely energy efficient and extremely long-lasting light bulbs. LEDs are just starting to hit the show floor. They still cost quite a bit more than even CFLs, but use even less energy and last even longer. An LED light bulb can reduce energy consumption by 80-90% and last around 100,000 hours. They even light up faster than regular bulbs. LEDs don't have nearly as much glare, and that allows the colors to stand out more.

Halogen lamps in particular can cast a yellowish appearance when they're dimmed while the coatings inside fluorescents can throw a conflicting green, blue, or pink hue on your exhibit. LEDs are more durable. Built inside solid cases, they're less likely to shatter than comparatively brittle incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. Using expansive lighting techniques with LED lighting takes the fear of overheating from the equation - safety issues can become an issue of the past. This is the future - better lighting, far less heat, safety concerns solved - and pricing that is falling every year.
