Public Trade Fairs and Shows

Trade Fairs, Expos, and Shows such as Auto Shows is a business-to-client or customer type of event. Companies gather not only to showcase their products and services, but also to sell and market them. These trade fairs are open to anyone interested and can cover a few industries at the same time such as a Home and Garden Show. There is usually an admission charge per day. Auto shows are in major cities, however home shows, for example, can be found in all sizes and many, many venues. Automobile Shows Detroit Auto Show – January — Detroit, MI — The Detroit Auto Show is one of the largest in the US. It takes place in the middle of January each year, spread over a week. Auto personnel from companies around the world are at this show to bring you all the information you could need or want. You will see vehicle debuts.

Chicago Auto Show — February — Chicago,IL – This is the largest and longest running auto show in the country, featuring all the bells and whistles an enthusiast could dream of. There are three indoor test tracks that feature professional drivers who are providing an assortment of road experiences. This show started back in 1901.

Atlanta International Auto Show — March — Atlanta, GA — There are plenty of opportunities to drive cars and purchase them at this show in March at the Georgia World Congress Center. Vehicles from the major auto manufacturers are on display. You will be able to see the classic car showcase, sports celebrities and other famous figures in racing and entertainment.

New York Auto Show — April — New York, NY – This show occurs at the beginning of April and provides you with sneak peeks, new concept models, new production models and much more. It is held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. There is a ride and drive area in which you can test drive new models.

Los Angeles Car Show — November — Los Angeles, CA – The LA auto show takes place at the end of November at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This show feature concept cars, hybrids, models that use alternative fuels, project cars and aftermarket cars. You can test drive many cars, play games and even see art exhibits on cars. This show has world premiers as well as North American premiers of new cars.

Classic Car Shows Amelia Concours d’Elegance — March — Amelia Island, FL – Amelia Island, near Jacksonville, Florida, is the destination for this Concours display. This three-day show at the Ritz-Carlton welcomes the finest vintage vehicles to compete for two awards.

Charlotte Autofair – April and September — Charlotte, NC – Billed as the world’s largest automotive extravaganza, the Charlotte AutoFair is a four-day event held at the famous Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC, this show features auctions, a classic car corral and thousands of merchant spaces

The Elegance at Hershey – June — Hershey, PA – Hershey, Pennsylvania, may be well-known for chocolate, but it is also the host of a Concours event featuring some of the most beautiful vehicles of a bygone era. The vintage race is one of its signature events.

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance — August — Pebble Beach, CA – The Concours is the signature event of the Pebble Beach, California, automotive week show. Concours — French for “a parade of vintage vehicles” brings together approximately 200 collector cars and motorcycles to the Pebble Beach Golf Links. This show is all about showcasing elegance and often features a surprise product reveal from a major automotive manufacturer.

The Woodward Dream Cruise — August — Detroit, MI – It is fitting that Detroit, also known as Motor City, has its own classic car event. The Woodward event, with more than 40,000 classic cars on display, is unrivaled in size. Cars cruise Woodward Avenue with more than 1 million people in attendance.

Boat Shows Miami International Boat Show — February – Miami, FL -This boat show is so large it spans three locations! The show is subdivided into three smaller shows—a general show at the Miami Convention Center, a sailboat show at Miamarina at Bayside, and a new yacht and powerboat show held at Sea Isle Marina. There is so much to do at the Miami International Boat Show, you’re likely to have a hard time getting it all done!

The Fred Hall Shows: The Ultimate Outdoor Experience – March — Long Beach, CA and San Diego, CA – These shows are outdoor shows, so while boating and fishing are prominently featured, they also offer plenty to see for the camping and hunting enthusiast. The Long Beach show hosts the largest selection of the nation’s leading equipment manufacturers, while the San Diego show is the oldest and largest consumer show in San Diego.

Palm Beach International Boat Show  – March — Palm Beach, FL – This impressive show features over $1.2 million worth of fishing boats, powerboats, super yachts and other boating gear. Have you ever seen a 150 foot yacht up close? If you’re interested in improving your boating skills, there are IGFA sport-fishing seminars.

Annapolis Boat Shows – April and October — Annapolis, MD — Close to 150,000 boating enthusiasts attend the Annapolis Boat Shows each year. This series of boat shows is spread out into several mini-shows throughout April and October so you can choose the show most relevant to you. Annapolis hosts the oldest shows for new, in-water sailboats and new, in-water powerboats.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (external link) – October — Fort Lauderdale, FL — As the “Yachting Capitol of the World,” Fort Lauderdale has a lot to live up to with its boat show, and it certainly doesn’t fail to impress. You can see everything from high performance boats to flat boats to motor yachts and catamarans. Spanning over 3 million square feet of space, Fort Lauderdale’s International Boat Show is so awe-inspiring you have to see it to believe it.

Air Shows MacDill Air Fest – April — Tampa, FL – Attracting more than 750,000 “air” and aircraft enthusiasts, the two-day MacDill Air Fest is one of the largest air shows in the USA, rated as one of the best air shows, events and festivals in the USA hosted by a variety of civilian and military aerobatics demonstration teams highlighting the missions, traditions and heritage of the military services.

May Day Fly-In & Air Show – May – Valdez, AK – One of the USA aviation events of the year, the May Day Fly-In & Air Show attracts more pilots, vendors and spectators than ever before. The pilot competitions include the spectacular STOL (Short Landing/Short Take Off) contests featuring the best pilots in the USA and around the world. Other events include the Poker Run, flour bombing , spectacular high flying aerobatics, the Unusual Attitudes’ daring stunt shows, an US Coast Guard Helicopter simulated rescue and a team of skydivers.

Andrews Air Force Base Joint Services Air Show – May — Joint Base Andrews, MD – Highlighting the Blue Angels, the Golden Knights, and many other exciting aerial and ground attractions, the Andrews Air Show, close to Washington DC, features everything from special military displays including “war birds” from more than four decades of military flight history as well as a wealth of civilian performers.

Vectren Dayton Air Show – July — Dayton, OH — Known to be “The Birthplace of Aviation,” Ohio celebrates its stronghold in the world of flight and the likes of the Wright brothers who put it there. Born in Dayton, Orville and Wilbur Wright are credited as the first people to successfully build a working airplane. Since 1974, the Vectren Dayton Air Show has celebrated the state as an aviation epicenter through these first-in-flight brothers, modern-day aerobatic champions and military jet flyers, among many others.

Pensacola Beach Air Show – July — Pensacola, FL – The Navy’s famous flight demonstration squadron, the Blue Angels, are joined by an exhilarating line-up during the annual Pensacola Beach Air Show, the biggest event of the year in Pensacola. Thousands of visitors flock to Pensacola Beach in July and Pensacola Naval Air Station in November to watch the world-famous Blue Angels practice awe-inspiring aerial maneuvers in the skies above. The Blue Angels practice most Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at the Pensacola Naval Air Station, from March to November.

EAA AirVenture – July — Oshkosh, WI – Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh is the home of the world’s largest and most significant annual aviation event. More than 10,000 planes of every size, shape and description – home-built, antique and aerobatics planes, plus military and general aviation aircraft from all over the world – are on display along the site’s flight line. They also can inspect the planes close-up and watch daily formation and aerobatic flying exhibitions performed by an international crew of expert aerobatics pilots.

Miramar Air Show – October — San Diego, CA – Taking place where the 1980’s film Top Gun was filmed, and widely recognized as one of the top air shows in the world, and the largest military show in the USA, and one of the main 15 Air Show USA events, the Miramar Air Show features performances by the Blue Angels, static displays and biplane aerobatics of A-10 Thunderbolts, F15 Eagles, F16 Fighting Falcons, and F22 Raptor fighter jets as well as performances and displays of past relics such as the P51 Mustang, the A1 Skyraider, F4 Phantom and TBM Avenger.

Hot Air Balloon Shows The Great Reno Balloon Race – September — Reno, NV – Combine a balloon event with a trip to Lake Tahoe at The Great Reno Balloon Race. Billed as the world’s largest free balloon festival, it also offers the tethered balloon ride for kids. Competitions include Balloon Blackjack where pilots attempt to steer the balloons over giant playing cards and throw bean bags from the basket to try to hit “21″. Reno also pioneered the Dawn Patrol.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta – October — Albuquerque, NM – The Granddaddy of Balloon Festivals, The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta lasts ten days, and attracts 500+ balloonists. Morning and evening scheduled events leave daytime free to explore Albuquerque’s varied offerings, including Sandia Mountain National Park, nearby Santa Fe, or a day trip to Ojo Caliente natural mineral hot springs.

The Red Rock Balloon Rally – November — Gallup, NM – Since New Mexico offers such perfect ballooning weather, it’s no surprise the second biggest festival of year is in Gallup, square in the middle of stunning Red Rock country. The Red Rock Balloon Rally, with around 200 balloons, is also the last big event of the year.

The Colorado Balloon Classic – September — Colorado Springs, CO – Head out to the Rockies for the first of the season’s big balloon events at The Colorado Balloon Classic. It is also noteworthy for having no admission charges, nearly 100 balloons in attendance, and a focus on family oriented activities and entertainment. The Classic also has a fundraising component for St Baldricks, which focuses on curing childhood cancers.

The Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival – June — Foley, AL – Down south, spend the day on the fine quartz white sand Gulf of Mexico beaches, and the mornings and evenings at The Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival. Or, shop the outlets, if the beach is too hot.

St. Louis Builders Home & Garden Show – March — St. Louis, MO – The Builders Home & Garden Show is Missouri’s largest home product market place. It is the place to see, learn about and buy the latest home products and services from more than 400 companies covering more than 9 acres of exhibit space.

Garden & Flower Shows Northwest Flower & Garden Show – February — Seattle, WA – This 5-day celebration is the second-largest flower show in the country, featuring an acre of show gardens and the most extensive roster of free horticulture seminars found anywhere. You’ll find plenty of inspiring ideas for creating outdoor living spaces, growing year-round edible gardens, and incorporating sustainable materials and practices into your landscapes.

Philadelphia Flower Show – March — Philadelphia, PA – Our country’s first horticultural society was founded in Philadelphia in 1827, and the inaugural Philadelphia Flower Show was held soon after in 1829. Nearly 200 years later, it’s the world’s largest and longest-running indoor flower show, covering 33 acres and attracting over 265,000 people annually.

Boston Flower & Garden Show – March — Boston, MA – The Massachusetts Horticultural Society held its last flower show in 2008, after 137 years of hosting its event in Boston. Fortunately, this show took over in 2010 and has continued to grow, featuring more than 2 dozen unique display gardens by the area’s top landscape professionals.

Dallas Blooms – March — Dallas,TX – Is it any surprise that the Southwest’s biggest floral festival is held in Texas? This vast display begins in February with over 500,000 blooming bulbs – including tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils – and wraps up in April with the flowering of 3,000 azaleas. Though this event’s more about gazing at flowers than planting them, interested visitors can check out the arboretum’s Trial Gardens, which feature tips and information for successful gardening in the unpredictable climate of north Texas.

San Francisco Flower & Garden Show – March — San Francisco, CA – The third-largest show in the nation offers acre upon acre of inspiration, with more than 20 full-size showcase gardens and 5 stages offering over 80 seminars from some of America’s most renowned garden experts. With a strong commitment to green practices, this show has a policy of using only sustainable flowers.

Arts & Crafts Festivals Palm Beach3 – January – Palm Beach, FL – Three distinct fairs pack into one location to present the best in contemporary art, photography and decorative arts. Established international and emerging artists, plus more than 100 leading galleries, exhibit their wares.

Baltimore Fine Craft Show – February — Baltimore, MD – 800 artists are selected to exhibit works in all mediums at this highly competitive American Craft Council show. 2007 marks the launch of a children’s line and a greater number of emerging artists.

St. James Court Art Show – October – Louisville, KY – This show gathers 700 artists from across America to exhibit outdoors in an area that calls itself the nation’s largest Victorian-era neighborhood.

Gaming, Comic & Sport Conventions PAX Prime – August — Seattle, WA – Play big-name games before they’re released, tabletop gaming, learning from industry pros. San Diego Comic-Con International – July – San Diego, CA — Tickets sell out in first hours. This prominent event hardly needs an introduction: San Diego Comic-Con International is synonymous with “pop-culture convention.” The four-day event takes over downtown San Diego to accommodate for every corner of fandom: from movies, to comics, to television, to gaming, to cosplay and everything in between. Anime Expo – July – Los Angeles, CA – The largest and second-longest running anime event in North America, Anime Expo is a pilgrimage for anime fans. X-Games – January — Aspen, CO – All Year the X Games is an annual sporting event, controlled and arranged by American sports broadcaster ESPN (with coverage also shown on its sister network ABC), which focuses on extreme sports. The inaugural X Games were held in the summer of 1995 in Newport, Rhode Island. Participants compete to win bronze, silver, and gold medals, as well as prize money.

National Football League Experience — Super Bowl Week – February — Santa Clara, CA – The NFL Experience is a temporary theme park operated by the National Football League during the week of the Super Bowl. It is a combination of interactive attractions and special events.
